I am happy to report that Proboards, the company that hosts our forum, has recently added a few new features to all forums hosted by them. Which of course includes DE.
The first that I'd like to talk about is a "Report to Mod" feature. We had something much like this in the past, but unfortunately it stopped working so I had to remove it completely. Now we have a much better and more reliable version built right into the forums software itself.
With this new feature you will find a "Report to Mod" link at the bottom of every post. When you click this link you will be redirected at a page that asks you to write a brief description as to why you're reporting the post. The description will help the Moderating team to better understand the situation and be able to respond to the report in a timely manor. Of course once you're written your description don't forget to "Submit" your report. Once you've done so the Moderating Team will be notified of the situation.
As for what to report, anything that you feel is a violation of the forum Rules/Regulations. This can include anything from spam, to flaming, to simply posting in the wrong board. If you feel that the staff needs to look into the post then you should report it.
Keep in mind that any and all reports are not made public. The staff can see who is reporting what, however absolutely nothing that is reported is shared publicly. If action is taken from a report the individual in question will neither know that they have been reported nor who reported them. This also works in the reverse. When action is taken the reporter will not be notified of such action. Once a report is sent all following events are handled strictly between the staff and the individual in question.
The next feature is a mouse-over preview of topics. If you hover your mouse over a thread title a box will pop-up with a small snippet of the opening couple of sentences from the post. This will allow members to be able to choose whether or not they want to spend the time reading a thread without having to wait for the thread to load. Simply mouse-over and see if you like the topic, if so click on the thread, if not move on. Simple, easy, and quick.
The final new feature from Proboards is an iPhone app. With the iPhone app anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch can have easy access to any Proboard forum, including DE. Proboards has released a free version and a $3 version. You can see the differences and the features of each on the link that I provided above.
Thank you, and be on the lookout for more new and exciting updates.
