Era: Baron's Corruption-World Without End
Name: Roman Carwen
Sex: Male
Age: At the end of Baron's Corruption- 19
Fall of Haven- 19-21
World Without End- 21- Death
Appearance: Roman is about 6 foot tall, and has blond hair that tends to spike up and become unkempt if he doesn't do anything to it. An odd match for blond hair, Roman has brown eyes that stand out on his milky skin. He likes to keep himself looking dapper in a casual way, all the tips he earns running messages going toward clothes. He resents the term 'pretty boy' but, well, if those sick kicks fit, you have to wear them.
Posture: Roman is too proud and arrogant to let himself slouch around like a bum, but he's also a tad lazy in a teenager kind of way, so formally informal is how Roman carries himself. When receiving messages to carry, he's professional, and tries to give off the impression that he's in total control. If he's feeling down, tired, or isn't trying to impress, he's more relaxed in the way he carries himself.
Personality: Roman is over all a pretty serious guy, his main drive in life to destroy the corruption he believes is ruling the city he lives in, but he also believes that being yourself and being happy are a big part of life... It just happens that his happiness comes from working, and being ambitious in life.
Because the Underground is made up of so many different people, and so many informal 'rules', Roman can make up a lie, story, or excuse on the turn of a dime, a skill that's saved his life enough times to become valuable. He can change the way he appears to others pretty efficiently, and when you seem compatible to so many different people, everyone can become an ally.
Occupation: Roman is currently an Underground messenger boy who desperately wants to move up in the ranks.
Abilities/Skills: There is no official trainings in the Underground, so the best thing you can do is go to the veterans and gather as much advice as you can, and that's exactly what agreeable, charismatic Roman has done. He's picked up the best ways to handle certain situations from people that have lived the events. Along with this knowledge and experience, he also possesses the stealthy skills of lock picking, code cracking, and is lithe and savvy enough to blend into almost any surroundings.
Powers: Roman possesses yellow eco, and tends to set little fires if he is upset or surprised.
Weapons: Roman carries around a Heckler and Koch USP, .45 pistol. Though he never seems to be in the heat of conflict, when he is, it's because some major issues are happening around him: He's been caught with Underground messages, he's been identified as a member of the Resistance. If he would die for his cause, he would also kill for it.
Relationships: Roman, believing himself to be pretty important in his 'career', tries to keep his relationships limited. However, he was friends and acquaintances through out the Underground. His advisor, sometimes friend, Charlie is also a big part of his life, as hard as it is for him to admit.
History: Roman was his parents' oldest, and only son, and a big brother to his sister, Larissa.
They all lived in a house in Haven, until their father turned too ill to work. In and attempt to financially support their family, their mother tried to find a source of income, but in the fluctuating and unstable job market, failed to do so. Luckily, their father became well enough again to function in a normal fashion, but had lost the job he had in the months of his illness. The family was broke, they lost the little house they had lived in, and soon couldn't even afford food or proper clothing. They were out on the streets.
Roman was ten and Larissa was seven when their parents finally left them. The family had found a spacey spot for the four of them, their parents had provided them with blankets, the last of the food that had been saved, and they left during the night.
Upon the morning, Roman tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, and in a way to comfort his little sister, convinced her and himself that they must have just headed off early for some kind of errand, and that they should just wait. They waited all that day, merely snacking on their carefully rationed food, but when night fell, Roman's faith in his parents crumbled and vanished. He hated them for leaving him alone, to take care of his little sister when he had no idea what to do. He and his sister stayed together and wandered around the city, half hoping they would catch a glimpse of their parents and half knowing they wouldn't ever be together again.
The unknown started to wear heavily onto Larissa, and she kept becoming more and more upset, crying as they walked, Roman tugging her along behind him, not knowing what else to do but to keep moving.
That's when Roman's Angel of Mercy came to the rescue, a woman named Jacinda. Cindy saw the scene and intervened, feeling for the situation the children seemed to be in. She told Roman that she knew a place he and his sister could stay, get fed and have a warm place to stay at night. Knowing that was the best thing for his sister, he readily agreed.
Thinking it would be a house like they had formally lived in, Roman was confused and surprised that they were led to the Industrial district and into one of the smaller warehouses. It wasn't a house at all, but a haphazard... Something.
Sheets and blankets were hung from the ceiling to make private rooms, couches, chairs and tables were throne about in any which way, nothing matched, and there were all kinds of different people around, doing any number of different activities.
Not wanting to jeopardize their chances of getting fed for free, Roman kept the questions he had bubbling up to himself. It wasn't until they were in the thick of their meal that he finally asked what was going on.
Cindy and her husband, Charlie, explained that this was an Underground safe house, but that these things were very secret, so they couldn't tell anyone about it. Roman found that interesting, so he filed it away to see how he could use it.
After eating, and being showed around the place, Charlie asked if Roman would like to go with him, to a secret meeting at one of the other safe houses. It was going to be in the middle of the night, and that intrigued Roman even more at that age; a secret meeting sounded really exciting. At first he declined though, persistent that he had to stay with Larissa. When Cindy soothed him, saying that she would take good care of Larissa while he and Charlie would be gone that short amount of time, Roman was able to whole heartedly agree, excited for such an adventure.
He and Charlie headed out after midnight, but when they arrived at the other safe house, there was something eerie about the place. Charlie proceeded with caution by himself into the building. When he came out again, he was panicked, and demanded that they had to run back to where Cindy and Larissa were.
They did run, all the way back to the Industrial District, and Roman heard the last of the gun shots as they approached. Charlie hid Roman in the shadows of a near by warehouse, and crept in the shadows to get a closer look at what was happening.
As Roman was quivering against a wall, alone and afraid, he saw figures coming out of the back door of Cindy's warehouse. They were clad in black, and Roman was afraid of the haunting image the group set off.
However, one removed their head piece and revealed simply a man. His hair was slivery in the moonlight, to match his glinting silver eye. He put something long over his shoulder to lay across his back, and Roman smothered a gasp as he realized that it was a gun. It had been shot off in the warehouse.
Inside of Roman stirred a hatred. If that man or any of the others had hurt his sister or Cindy, they would not be forgiven.
Eventually, (it seemed like a life time to Roman) the people in black had left, and Charlie had come back with a bag of papers, and other things that he had deemed important in his rush to gather things.
"Where's my sister?" Roman had asked, voice shaking. "Where's Larissa and Cindy?"
"Roman, I'm sorry. We can't go back in there. Soon, more soldiers will be back to clear the bodies out. We have to go if we value our lives."
That of course didn't sit well with Roman, who fought, screamed and cried to try to convince Charlie to let him go get his sister. After a hard slap, and the guarantee that if Roman kept making so much noise, they would be killed, Roman shut himself up the best he could.
Thus began the saga of Charlie and Roman, Safe house Leader and messenger boy, the best pair the Underground had seen in a while.
Since joining the Underground, Roman has been dreaming of being more of an asset, making the resistance his full time career, tearing the KG and the Baron down, one mission at a time.
