Era- Baron's Corruption-World Without End
Name- Marcus Lorenzo
Sex- Male
Age- Baron's Corruption- 33
Fall of Haven- 36
World Without End- 38
Appearance- Marcus is 5 foot 10, a couple hairs short of being considered short. His dark brown hair is a mop on his head, because if it was short, it would stick up, and that irritates him to no end. He has dark blue eyes that are known to look almost black depending on a couple of factors, such as what he's wearing and the kind of mood that he's in. As casual in his dress as he is in life, while in Haven City he just wears a pair of jeans, tennis shoes or work boots, depending on his mood, and whatever t-shirt he can pick up off his apartment floor and doesn't smell too bad. In the Wastelands, it's typical summer wear, shirt with no sleeves, shorts, and boots to protect his feet.
Posture- Marcus is an easy-going kind of guy, and it definitely shows in his posture. He stands tall in a proud but relaxed way, he walks with a non-serious spring in his step, and is generally enjoying himself more than he's worried about what people think of him as he walks by.
Personality- Marcus has always been easy-going, and that is his main character trait. He lives his life going with the flow, rolling with the punches, not letting anything anyone does or say harsh his mellow. However, he isn't a push over, and he's not naive. When he sees a wrong, he looks for a right. When he sees conflict, he's the peace maker. He's empathetic to some people, while it's hard to relate to negative things like hate, criticism or being over-judgemental. To him, everyone has to go through life, and they should be able to live it happily.
However, when things aren't always rainbows and butterflies, Marcus takes it hard. Since the death of his wife and the presumed death of his daughter, Marcus wasn't quite the same, understandingly spiraling down into a deep depression that he isn't completely over. Everyone can only take so much before they break, and Marcus shatters.
Occupation- In his youth, Marcus was an artifact hunter, for the excitement and adventure more for the actual money making factor. He relied heavily on his parents savings, and later inheritance, his wife's income as a blacksmith and weapon's maker, and after Veronica was killed, the large some of money that his in-law's loaned him to restart his life. Now, that money is running out, and he's currently looking for employment to avoid becoming part of the growing impoverish and homeless population in Haven.
Abilities/skills- Marcus isn't the type of person to know a lot about one thing, but seems to know a little about everything. Being at his father's side in the family business taught him what he's supposed to do with money and how to conduct business (Despite all the lessons and lectures, he still tends to just do what he wants), his somewhat impulsive role as a leader of the Spargus colony taught him further leadership skills, being able to delegate responsibilities to others, and how to work with a huge, diverse group of people.
Powers- Marcus has blue eco powers, which he's been aware of since he was a child. No one had ever been able to tell him how to completely control it, and he really didn't care to explore it's properties until he was a young man in the Wastlelands. Since then, he's taught himself quite a lot, and has a fair amount of control over it.
Weapons- Marcus, being a simple fellow, even protects himself simply. As a younger man, he used to think bigger was better. However, adopting some of his late wife's ideas, he protects himself with a single dagger at his side. That weapon is used sparingly, as Marcus is usually able to swindle himself out of any trouble.
Relationships- Having no family of his own left, and any friends, acquaintances, or neighbors lost to him, his only true relationship is the one he has with his wife's family.
History- Marcus was the only child of a merchant family, one of the few that might consider themselves higher middle class. The Lorenzo family never needed for any necessity as many did, and were even able to splurge every now and again.
Growing up, Marcus was spoiled, being an only child and a mama's boy to boot, Marcus could never do anything wrong. He was reckless and loved to be mischievous, but it never got out of hand. He was restless as a child and teenager, wanting more than what he had experienced already.
At the ripe age of nineteen, he felt like he was wasting away in the city, bored out of his mind and not looking forward to ever taking over his father's market stand. Thankfully, his prayers were answered when a group of artifact hunters blew through the city. It wasn't like they were recruiting, but Marcus found them and was nearly begged to join them. The hunters finally let in, and Marcus packed up that same day and left everything he knew and loved behind to find an adventure of his own.
The destination was the Wastelands, with the final destination Spargus. Marcus was just excited to finally be out from under his parents control. However, his adventure was short lived, because as soon as they made it to Spargus, he thought he had found himself a different kind of future.
When he first laid eyes on Veronica, it was love at first sight... for him anyway. Marcus was convinced that Veronica just wasn't understanding how fantastic he was. Some good natured stalking commenced, as he rented a room not far from Veronica's home and her father's shop, and he slowly squirmed his way into Veronica's heart, as he really was relatively fantastic.
They were married in Spargus, and at that same time, there was talk of expanding the city, or maybe even building another, to see if another city like Spargus would survive in the Wastelands. The city was taking volunteers to try to develop a second city, and Marcus saw another golden opportunity for an adventure. It took some convincing to get Veronica's approval, but she caved and she and Marcus both became citizens of the Spargus Colony.
Once infrastructure was created, Marcus felt a new found ambition, and was elected to sit on the five person panel that would carry out the day to day activities of the city.
Marcus and Veronica grew their family, and lived happy lives in the colony.
The night the town was ambushed, Marcus and his wife tried to do what was right for their family and their home. When the town hit the five year mark without so much of a peep of a Metalhead threat on the town, the panel became lazy about maintaining emergency plans and procedures. Marcus cursed himself countless times as a plan was haphazardly slapped together, as the colonists did more harm to themselves than the actual Metalheads. He tried to send his wife after his daughter, tried to convince her that Monica needed her and that he would help defend, but she wouldn't listen. She thought Monica was safe enough hiding, and that she would fight side by side with her husband.
And that's what they did, fought side by side, but the Metalheads fought in swarms, and drove between Marcus and Veronica. They were both isolated, and by time the wave had been drove back, Marcus found Veronica was dead. That's when he finally lost his willingness to fight. His first and only love was dead, and there wasn't anything to fight for much anything else.
He retreated by then, convincing the citizens the best thing to do was to cover themselves as they fleed. He had to try to find Monica, and then would try to get her to Spargus as safely as he could.
The survivors fled to the woods, and with nothing but a flaming city to destroy, the Metalheads were gone enough by morning that the remaining colonist fled back to either Spargus or Haven. Marcus hadn't been able to search for his daughter until morning, and he was panicked as he couldn't find her. He picked through the city, burying his wife and other dead with the help of some of the men and woman who hadn't left.
Marcus still couldn't find his daughter, even after searching the town and woods in the following weeks, all by himself.
Finally, Veronica's brothers came to get Marcus, and take him back to Spargus, knowing he wouldn't have anywhere else to go. Marcus, Tobin and Jonas paid their last to Veronica, and dragged themselves back home.
Marcus didn't know what to do with himself, but his restless self knew he had to keep moving forward.
He decided to go back to Haven, and try to rebuild his life there. He started renting an apartment, but didn't do much else, until he was rudely awakened when he discovered that his money was slowly diminishing and would soon result in some bounced checks. So now, Marcus is trying to function as a grown man, and to repair the hurt he desperately wants to get rid of.
