Proboards, or should I say the service that Proboards uses to regulate the ads that appear at the top of the site, has been pretty good in the past with making sure that ads stay clean, never play audio, and stay within a specific size. Unfortunately there have been some issues the last few months running around various Proboards forums where ads have slipped through the filter, and we got hit by one of them today. So I'm creating this thread for everyone to know what to do if you see an ad that should not be on DE. If you see an ad that does any of the following it should be reported immediately. - Ads which automatically play audio
- Ads that automatically expand to larger than their normal size
- Any and all popup ads
- Ads which attempt to install software/malware on your computer
If you see any of these violated by an ad press CTRL+ALT+R (key command works with both Mac and PC) and fill out the report form that pops up, make sure to take a screen shot beforehand. This will provide Proboards with the information needed to investigate the issue and potentially have the ad blocked. Also, don't forget to send me a PM with details about the ad and the report that you sent in. It'd greatly help me to be able to keep track of the content that circulates on the site and have needed information if it becomes necessary to approach Proboards directly with the issue. Thank you for you assistance in keeping the ads appropriate.
