Writing Contest - October 2010

Welcome to October's writing contest. This contest theme will be about a halloween story.

Rules:

• You cannot vote for yourself.
  
• You can only post one of your written story.
  
• The story is required 2,000 characters minimal.
  
• There's also a limit of only one post for the story. If it can't fit in only one post it's too long.
  
• The content of the story must be DE characters. If you use characters other then your own you must receive permission from the creator of the character(s) first.
  
• Do not ask for comments or critique within this thread – save that for the actual Comments board. Of course, you are still allowed to discuss the contest within this thread. BUT, keep discussions civilized – don’t let debates explode into flaming.
  
• Each month’s contest will be posted within the first five days of the month, and users are given exactly 20 days from the date of the thread to submit their entries. Voting will be done by both users and staff at the contest's end. Users are to pick their favorites, then will pick between the top three (or however many) submissions.

The winners will be announced in each Monthly Highlights thread.

Fright Ride

She rounded the bend on her jetboard, smiling. She had a mask on of course, since it was halloween. People around her smiled, not recognizing her. But who else would wear the mask of A Red Dragon? Her long red black hair whipeed behind her as she pressed the accelerator. She knew Leo was going to be sitting on his porch handing candy to kiddies, but she had better ideas. one's that involved taking him out for some fun. She had gone to get this Jetboard from a friend in the desert because it was huge. Big enough that tw people could ride on it with ease. Boy Leo, are you in for a surprise.

She turned another corner, riding a ramp into the air. A few kids gasped and clapped. She hit ground with a slight sound of metal scraping metal and her smile got wider. Maybe he wouldn't like this idea. Too bad for him. It was only a little fursther, another twist here and turn there. It didn’t seem like such a long way when you were gliding over everything on a jetboard. Except mayvbe gliding wasn’t right. More like speeding like a madman. There! She saw his shock of bright blue hair. She turned sharply, moving towards him. He was handing candy to a few kids. She jumped, grinding the rail and coming out of the alley like she was riding clouds. With a one-eighty she was facing him, the kids cheering. He was clutching his hand, as if she had made him nervous, or frightened. Goal on for the night, complete. And score again for the assasin She though.

" Why Hello Loe and company. How is your night going." Leo just shook his head and the kids clamored to tell her. She scooted towards Leo, taking the bowl from his hands.
" Leo, dear, you don't need all this candy! You'll get cavities!" She grinned, taking the bowl and duping a little into each kids bag till it was gone. The cheered and ran off. She looked back at him, a look of exasperation and fadin starlement crossing his face.

" Shinrah, why....." She shook her head, miscevious look in her eyes. Shinrah took the bowl and set it on the step next to the pumpkins. She was going to have too much fun with this. Leo was too upright sometimes. She wished he wold just realx, smell the roses, maybe get bitten by a crocodog or two. The thought made her grin.

" You need to get out more often. Not being able to see is not a good excuse." She admonished jokingly. The woman grabben his hand, pulling him forward. He smiled in exasperation. She knew what he was thinking. Crazy Shinrah is going to do something stupid and get everyone in trouble. Or hurt. That’s what she was all about. Inside, Shinrah smiled while she whisled non chalantly.

" So I've decided we are going for a ride tonight. Maybe "see" some city lights from above?" She joked. He tensed slightly. Apparently he didn’t like the idea. Maybe he was afraid Shinrah wass a bad driver? That couldn’t be so. She’d driven him before. Then again he didn’t know that this was going to be a jetboard ride.
" Umm, I can't see anything for one. And two, I don't think I can ddrive." She skook her head. Like he needed to drive with her around?

" You don't need to see. All you have to do is hold on. We're going to cable jump. I know a few ways to get up to the cables at the palace. And I've always loved jet-boarding......" She let the sentence hang. He movd away from her like she had just caugh on fire. The lookon his face mixed nervousness, fear and surprise all into one and still looked hgood as it pulled on the scars across his face. She sighed and rolled her eyes.

" No. Thats not a good idea. The Kg and the height..... what if we fell? Splat!" He shuddered at the thought. Shinrah just scoffed at him. She wasn't worried about such small things. Like shewould really let him fall.

"Well, I guess someone will be having Leo-Shinrah pancakes then. " She told him nonchalantly. The woman pulled out the jetboard, expanding it. She stepped on, pulling Leo behind her.
" You don't have to worry. Just hang on and have fun!" She accelerated slightly to see what his reaction would be. He stiffened, and she rolled her eyes. Did he really have to be so uptight about everything?

Then, they were off.

She couldn't help that she liked high speeds. And having Leo with her was much more fun. She could feel the wind rushing across her face, an exilarating feeling. She hoped that he felt the same. Maybe, maybe not. He was still stiff as a board hanging on for dear life. Really now. I might just have to change that. I hop e you’re ready Leo.

She decided taking him to the cables was a bad idea with the way he was. But the port would be good! She angled herself, narrowly missing a wall as she zoomed down the alley. She hoped that there wouldn't be too much traffic. That would be bad for Leo. He might have a heart attack or something. She grinned devilishly as she sped in between a few KG. They started yelling, and a shot narrowly missed her ear.

“ Shinrah, get me off, get me off, get me off!” He reapeated it like it would help. Shinrah could only laugh and keep going. As long as non of the KG had recognized her they wouldn’t h7.chase. They were good. Shinrah looked around rto find a good place to really start riding. Or maybe let Leo off. He was looking so… scared. She really didn’t like that look on him.

She sped across a small amount of water and onto a ramp back onto the sidewalk. Maybe she should take him to maintaown. The cannals were much more fun to ride in. Something told her that Leo wouldn’t like this either way. Shinrah slowly came to a stop, steppin off and helping Leo off. His face was pale.

“: Shinrah…. Never. Agin.” He said, one word at a time. She couldn’t help it. Laughter rippled from her, echoing slightly across the water.

“ Aww, come on Leo, it was only a little Fright ride. Think how you’d be feeling right now if we had ridden the cables. Probably not as good as you feel now.” He leaned against the wall behind him and covered his h.face with his hand. Shinrah just smirked.

“ Comeone, we’ll walk home. Wouldn’t want your hair to fall out or any such strange thing.” With that she started to walk away. Leo shook hishead and followed.
Thank the precursors that that’s over. He thought as he followed her into the darkness.
