Era: Baron's Corruption and The Fall of Haven
Name: Kait J. Rorden (friends call her Jay)
Sex: Female
Age: 18 and 22
Appearance: Unusually tall, at 6’1” tall. She’s wiry, but more lanky than muscled, making her more suited for running than for hand-to-hand combat. She’s thin, and fast, and whenever she gets into trouble, she prefers to run rather than stay and fight. However, if she has the opportunity to stand back and ambush her opponent, she will take the chance. However, because she isn’t very strong, it is easy for opponents to overpower her when she’s backed into a corner. She has thick dark purple hair (so dark its almost black), that she keeps in a bob with flat bangs and long sides. Her eyes are dark blue, and she has pale, barely tanned skin, even though she works outside frequently. She always wears a spotless but worn pair of dark blue blue jeans, with a wifebeater or t-shirt of a varied color. Over the top she has two pairs of suspenders that she always wears, one that’s gunmetal gray, and the other yellow. She also commonly wears an ancient military jacket that has been passed down in her family for years, and almost always has with her. On her feet she wears a pair of tattered, red calf-high boots, and on her head she almost always has an old military hat that was her father’s before he died. In the summer, she wears short shorts, and tall gladiator sandals. She also wears a wide leather belt that she has many things attached to, including a pair of flight goggles that she often uses when welding.
Posture: Kait walks tall, with her shoulders back and her hips out. She walks with a chip on her shoulder though, and frequently treats people like they are stupid. She walks as if everyone else she comes across is inferior, though when around her friends, she stands tall, and acts as protector.
Personality: Kait does not trust easily, and most people that she comes across, she treats with abruptness and dislike, though the occasional person will come along who stands up to her, and garners her respect. She’s highly intelligent, and gifted with machines, though not very social with people, and often gets into awkward situation where instead of apologizing and moving on, she quickly angers, and treats others as if they are at fault. However, Kait is highly trustworthy (you can trust her, but she won’t trust you), and if you ask her to do something, she will make sure it is done right the first time, or not done at all. She also has a sly, sharp sense of humor, and she would do almost anything that her friends or remaining family required to make them happy. In many situations, her first emotion and reaction is anger and distrust, though if anyone is willing to stand up to her she often learns to like the person, or at the very least learns to respect them. Kait hates animals of any kind, having been bitten by a dog when she was very young, and fears big animals the most. Also, not ever having had to deal with small children in her life, she is awkward around children of almost any age younger than herself.
Occupation: Smuggler and white collar thief, though she works as a mechanic for the public. Because of her job, she has connections in both the Underground and the Krimson Guard, though she is on the side of neither. She works where the money is, and steals things for her own enjoyment, answering to no one. She owns a repair shop, and works as a mechanic with her best friend Ela.
Abilities/Skills: Kait has a gift with machines, and can fix almost anything. She also designs new machines quite often that aid her in her smuggling business by allowing her to hide goods more easily. She is very accurate with a gun, and can hit a tiny target from a great distance. However, she has only the most basic skills with a knife, and cuts herself more often than her opponent. She can weld and make forgeries of almost any document. She can drive any kind of land vehicle, and pilot almost any kind of plane. She knows little in the way of hand-to-hand combat, and prefers to avoid fights where she can’t get the upper hand by striking her enemy from a distance or defeat him/her with quick words.
Powers: Advanced dark eco
Weapons: Kait carries a handgun of her own design that she has holstered in a leather holster attached to her belt at her hip. The gun is very accurate, though has limited range, and only holds six bullets.
Relationships: Best friends since childhood with a fellow mechanic, Ela Harper, who often helps her on smuggling missions, and friends with her deceased brother’s ex-best friend, Lile Benedict, a rich, well-off young man who has a bit of a wild side, and occasionally catches Kait’s eye, though he is completely unaware if this. Though Lile has no idea what Kait really does for a living, he also runs a lucrative smuggling business, running as Kait’s competitor without either of them being aware of it. Her mother, father, and one-year-younger brother are all dead, having died in an explosion when aiding the Underground. Her mother’s sister is the only one of her real family living, her grandparents having died from natural causes years earlier. She has only sparse interaction with her aunt, because of her aunt’s severe distaste of Kait’s working as a mechanic (“not ladylike”).
Story about them/History: Kait’s life started simply and easily in Haven, where she lived with her mother, father, and younger brother. Her mother was a stay at home mom, and her father was an engineer for Baron Praxis, where he created the designs for new air and land vehicles. However, both of her parents were working with the underground to try and find a way to force the Baron out of power.
At age twelve, Kait’s parents died in a raid for the Underground, as did her brother, having followed her parent to the raid, leaving himself with not enough time to escape and thereby leaving Kait alone. The Baron’s men found Kait in her family’s home, and took her in to finish her father’s work after hearing of her inherited prowess with machines.
Though she knows that if were not for the Baron’s tyranny, her parents would still be alive, she does not blame either the Baron or the Underground for the death of her family, realizing that it was her parent’s choice to participate in the activities of the Underground. However, deeply wounded by the death of her innocent brother, who she considered her only true friend, she spent every waking moment wishing that she could be out of the city, away from the people who could have stopped the death of her brother.
Kait works with the Underground occasionally, attempting to gain as much money from both them and the Baron’s goons, in a feeble attempt to destroy both factions in the future. When she was taken in by the Baron, she came across her brother’s old friend, Lile, a devout member of the Underground who was attempting to destroy Baron Praxis. They became good friends through her work on mechanics for the Baron, though Lile was unaware that Kait not only planned to destroy the Baron, but the Underground as well.
She worked fairly happily over the next few years for the Baron, but at age sixteen, when wandering through the Baron’s massive mechanics lab, she stumbled across a massive vat of dark eco that the Baron had been experimenting with to try and create the perfect Dark Warrior. Caught off guard, and surprised to see a large amount of the Baron’s Guard surrounding the vat, she tried to run, but was detained by the Guards. In the ensuing struggle, one of her suspenders caught on the railing, sending her stumbling backward over the railing into the vat of dark eco. Laughing and assuming that it would kill her instantly, the Guards simply reported to Baron Praxis that Kait had run into the desert to try and escape the city and died.
However, three days later, when the dark eco vat was emptied for use, the Guard found Kait still alive at the bottom of the container. She was taken to the medical labs immediately, as she was not breathing, but registered a heartbeat, where the doctors drained her lungs of the dark eco, and miraculously managed to revive her.
Though the dark eco had kept her alive at the bottom of the container, it had also fused with her DNA, making her year-long recovery lengthy and extremely painful. Because the Baron had been searching for a Dark Warrior for so long, the Guard were ordered to test her to see if she had gained dark eco powers. However, through all the tests, the only thing that was discovered was that without enough dark eco in her body at one time, she would start to die. Otherwise, miraculously, she was completely human.
Realizing that it would be a great burden to keep Kait full of dark eco consistently, Baron Praxis ordered the Krimson Guard to send her back to her Aunt’s house, where she could be ‘taken care of.’ However, upon seeing Kait in her sorry state, her aunt quickly dumped Kait onto the streets to fend for herself, not wanting to associate herself with an unmannered and thrashed hooligan.
Wandering aimlessly, remembering hardly any of the last year in the Baron’s citadel, Kait finally wandered into a part of town that was vaguely familiar to her, and sat down on the street and was discovered by her childhood friend, Ela Harper, a black market connoisseur and smuggler. They had not seen each other since Kait had gone in to work for the Baron, and caught up quickly. However, throughout Kait’s stay with Ela, Kait became more and more sickly, and nothing Ela tried helped her health.
One afternoon, though, Ela heard a group of guards gossiping about a girl addicted to dark eco that they had dumped onto the streets after an accident in the Baron’s service. She contacted a few of her eco-trading benefactors, and managed to purchase a steady stream of dark eco for Kait.
Once the dark eco had been given to Kait, she recovered almost immediately, and has since been taking the eco pills daily for more than a year. Afterwards, Kait opened a mechanics shop with Ela, in order to support herself, and aided Ela in her smuggling business, though branching off later for her own work. Kait now works in the mechanics shop, and repair airships and land cruiser for a living, while supporting herself with her smuggling business on the side, waiting for the day that she will be able to bring down not only Baron Praxis and his Krimson Guards, but the Underground as well.
***********Continued history for Fall of Haven**************
Right before the downfall of the Baron’s regime, Kait became consumed with a need to escape the city, and therefore a need for money to escape with and restart someplace else. Foolishly, Kait made a deal with a rogue metalhead group that promised her large amounts of cash if she could transport to them consistently upgraded weapons and machinery. The job went well for a while, until the metalheads got greedy, and demanded the newest military guns that they knew Kait could not provide.
In an on the spot decision, Kait decided to cut all ties with the metalhead group, and subsequently enraged them into attacking her and her belongings.
When Kait turned 20, and only a few days after her birthday, the group of metalheads Kait had been trading with tried to track her down, and came across her shop. Upon finding the shop, they destroyed it utterly, along with everything inside it, bombing it to the ground, and destroying many of the neighboring building as well. Thankfully, Kait was far away when the bombs went off, attending to a trade with a group Lile had set her up with.
Enraged by the metalhead behavior, and knowing that she could not set up another shop now that her entire front job had been destroyed, she went into hiding, working to rebuild her wealth and rejoin back into her old job.
However, after a few months, Kait realized that she could not live in the city any longer, constrained by her poor situation, and still threatened by metalheads. Having to move every few months, and having no way to set down roots without being attacked every few months, she gave up, and left for the desert, taking a year and a half’s supply of her dark eco pills with her.
Living the life of a desert nomad by herself for nearly two years, Kait returned to the city at 22, finding that she could now navigate the city without the danger of attack from the metalheads.
Ela Harper, Kait’s partner in crime, and helper at her metalshop, was wounded in the explosion that destroyed Kait’s shop, and was left with Kait’s aunt to recover while Kati ventured out into the desert. Upon returning, Kait found that Ela was alive and working in a tavern in the city center, though she was permanently constrained to a wheelchair.
Lile Benedict had not been seen since the explosion of the shop and the crash of the Baron’s regime. When Kait left the city, she left without seeing him, not knowing whether she would ever see him again. Upon returning, Kait found that Lile had joined a group of brutal wastelanders who hunted down and killed any metalheads they found, regardless of whether they were causing problems or not.
Kait had heard of this group, and strongly disapproved that Lile had joined, starting a spat between them, that neither of them seemed able to resolve with kind words.
Now, Kait lives in city again, finally working to rebuild her job without the threat of attack. Still friends with Ela, Kait often visits her tavern for advice and a good laugh. Though Kait is still difficult to be around, and can often come off too strong, her years in the desert gave her insight, and toned her down. She remains acquaintances with Lile, though they seem to be on opposite sides of the law now. She knows that eventually they will have to come to terms with each other, though Kait is not quite ready to do this.
In the meantime, Kait works to rebuild her life and reacquaint herself with the people she used to know. She still engages in white collar crime occasionally, though the high intensity heists are no longer her style. Selling small mechanical wares, Kait struggles to reconnect with her past life, and aims only to discover it again.
******Please Note******
The bombing of Kait’s shop is not something that I pan to have actually occur in the RP. It is just an event that happens after Baron’s Corruption, and before the Fall of Haven. Keeping this in mind, please don’t try to add this event into the RP, because I don’t want to have to RP in Baron’s corruption without a home base. Mentioning the bombing in Fall of Haven is ok, but I really just want this to be something that was completely separate from the RP, but still included in Kait’s past.
Thank you all!
