Fishing For Adventure

The sweet breeze sweeps in from the ocean. It is sunny, but clouds still hang over the sky. These are the days Jaf likes the most. It is freezing, but he doesn't mind. He sits down by the shore, pulling off his boots so he can sink he feet into the sand. He smiled as he feet chill in the brisk air. He drops his head back to look up at the clouds, smiling at the dim light from the sun. His dreadlocks fall gently over his shoulders as he lowers himself to lay on the ground.

It is almost a shame that a day such as this has it's peaceful silence spoiled by a burst of glittering water drops. A wet mop-like head of hair emerges from the center of the splash, followed by a young woman's body and a net full of what looked like crabs and shellfish.

With a doggy-style shake the woman rids herself of the water and slogs onto shore holding her haul up with great pride whether anyone was there to see or not. Too bad she can't see out of her hair before tripping on one of Jaf's discarded boots. "Whoa-ah-eyyaaah!" She face plants in the sand and sends her net a few feet ahead of her. "What was that?" She pushes herself up and looks over her shoulder, her hair still over her face.

Jaf jumps with the sudden noise, both ears perking up, "Whoa--..!" he gives a surpised stare to the woman as she climbs out of the water. As she begins her trip along the sand he sees his boots, "Hey-! Wait--!" too late. He runs the the woman's side, gently taking her arm into his hand, "I'm so sorry! I left my boots in the sand." he sees her shell fish slowly escaping as he helps her up, "... Oh! Those are yours, aren't they!" he runs over and frantically begins to pluck the shellfish up, one by one, "Ow! Ow! Ow!" he says with every snap.

"Oh, no problem. I should've tied my hair back." He grins and uses one her arms to sweep the whole mess from her face and wring it out like an old beach towel. "Whoops, guess the net opened when I dropped it!" She laughs and quickly runs over, diving in an helping with the collection. "Ow, ouch, ow ow-- I'm Siba. I think I've seen you with the Blue Sage before. Your name's --ouch-- Jaf, right?-- ow ow, yeowch!"

Jaf nodded with a smile, hiding his jolts of pain, "Yeah, that's me. -Ouch- So, Siba, -ouch- do you live here?" he tosses a large pile in the bag, wiping off his hands once he's finished, "I think I've seen you a couple of times too. Are you the one who gets into those fights...?"

Siba slings the net over her shoulder again with a nod of gratitude. "Hehe, yeah, that's me! I live out in the swamp, next to my neighbor Billy, but I work out there." She jabs a thumb in the ocean's direction. "I fish, ya know?" She motions to the net. "What's it that you do? Gotta be important if you sit 'round with the sage all day."

Jaf smiles with a hint of rose in his cheeks, "Well, not that important. I'm apprenticing, and I kinda... invent things. I'm an inventor." He turns around and grabs his boots, "Though most of the things aren't that great at all. The most I can make is maybe a toaster without it exploding."

"Wow, an inventor? That sounds like a hoot, it does! Aw, I bet you're better than ya say. I mean, if the Sage thinks you'd make a good apprentice, ya gotta be good." She gives him a wide, toothy grin. "All I'm good at is fishin', ya know? Not the most excitin' career, but ya do what ya can to get food on the table."

"I guess so." he pauses, "Well, I bet it's plenty exciting! Think about it! You get to spend all day out by the water, and you sometimes find things you never thought you would. Think about it." He tipped one of his boots over, pouting the sand out of it, "With me it's more frustrating than fun. I can barely remember what I'm doing most of the time. But Terris says that I'm gifted, so I keep trying."

"Terris, huh? Never knew that was his name.." She paused before looking back with a huge grin, "Ya think? Ya know, now that I think 'bout it, I did find a really nice bottle cap one time, and a Power Cell, too! I guess you're right." She gave him a hard pat on the back. "Don't feel bad. Ya just need practice is all! Heck, I bet you make the dandiest of things. When I first started fishin', I lost more equipment than I caught fish! Almost got bored with it, but then one day I hooked a Lurker Shark and got dragged into them there reefs," she pointed and gave a nostalgic sigh, "and it was love at first shipwreck."
