After his sudden feat of dexterity Sicar flipped back over and stood up to see Karras getting back on his feet a few yards away. Sicar growled with pleasure at the results of his counter attack. Rolling his shoulder he began to walk towards but noticed something on the ground. Looking down Sicar noticed the gun that Karras had dropped. That gun had nearly removed his head…twice! It had to be disposed else it may actually succeed in decapitating. Raising his clawed foot, Sicar charged his leg with red eco, and then slammed his leg down like a sledge hammer. The ground cracked and shattered as the air was filled with the screech of twisting metal. Raising up his foot, Sicar brought it down once more, crushing the pistol. Satisfied Sicar looked up at Karras and pulled out his mauser. “Now little human let me show you how to shoot!” Taking aim Sicar fired the large pistol, its report drown out by artillery going off.
Etrius continued fighting forward, slowly advancing towards Mallock as the drop-ships lifted off behind him. Another metal-head jumped at Etrius, its maw wide open, razor sharp teeth ready to cut into his flesh. Stepping to the side, the metal-head landed where Etrius had been a moment before. Raising his sword he brought the blade down on the beasts head, cutting through the spine, dropping the metal-head where it stood. A moment later he realized he wasn’t alone, but that Starus had stayed behind. “You know the plan was for you to get out of here and me to stay, being that this looks to be a one way trip.” Bringing his sword up he deflected a metal-heads claw just to find another ready to counter. Etrius tried to side step but the beast claws still managed to rake his side. With a gasp of pain Etrius brought his sword around, cutting off the grunts’ hand, then he brought the blade down and up, cutting deep into the grunts chin and out through the top of its skull.
Mallock laughed at the three humans before him, “Pitiful you humans really expect to stop me! When this day ends the hora’quan will reign and you will all know darkness and death! Come humans and I may just make your pains quick…and less painful…” Mallock grinned, his sharp teeth showing, as the last words left his mouth.
Etrius could hear the words over the roars and hissing of the metal-heads before him. Taking several steps back he came up beside Starus. “If you can, start falling back when I engage Mallock. Draw these things away and try to find some help. This city still needs a leader and your one of the few still willing to fight.” With that Etrius’ eyes started to turn blue; then drawing on what little light eco still remained in him he mixed it with the blue eco. Lunging forward he seemed to blink out of existence then a moment later reappeared above Mallock, Etrius sword raised as he came down to strike.
Mallock brought his own blade up while stepping backwards. Etrius landed in front of him, sparks flying as the two blades met. Following Mallock, Etrius continued to strike, each hit being quickly parried by Mallocks' sword. The clash of steel filled the air as the two fought when an explosion engulfed a section of the street, then another and another! More buildings fell as artillery rained down through the holes in the quickly deteriorating shield covering Haven The building to their right suddenly imploded as they continued to fight. Brick and mortar came raining down from above as the building fell in on itself. Smoke and dust filled the air as Mallock and Etrius where buffed by the concussion of the shells going off around them. Stumbling from the shell shock, Mallock shook his head, trying to clear it, and yelled up at the sky "STOP SHELLING ME YOU FOOLS!"

Status had just speared a metalhead when Etrius began speaking to him. "I know! But no man can actually take on all of these things!"
His body count increased for a few more moments when Etrius told him to fall back and draw the rest of the metalheads away. He didn't hesitate. "You! Girl!" He pointed and shouted at Neko. "Get a few of these thing to chase you away from this away!"
Starus ran between Etrius and the horde of metalheads. He ran across the front line and started whacking them on the head with the blunt end of the spear. "Good luck and godspeed!," He said to Etrius as he ran past.
Thee metalheads were very much annoyed and angered by this act and started chasing after him. The metalheads behind them started following close behind.
"Come and get some you ungly hooligans!," Starus shouted still running laughing a little. But the laughing stopped soon afterwards as familiar whistling sound filled the air. Starus stopped in his tracks. His eyes wide knowing what would happen next.
And he was right. An artillary round smashed into the building behind him blasting concrete, rock and steel out into the street. The blast also pushing him away from the building and blew him across to the other side of the street. He quickly regained himself and got up and began running from the area. He tried sticking to the side of the buildings in hope of getting some cover from the explosions going off around him.

Kelinna paused at a window, various women and children rushing past her all screaming in fear as the battle grew fiercer. She only closed her eyes as the building across the street was destroyed, the blast shattering the glass of the window. Her skin was easily scratched and cut the wounds slowly healing as Kelinna slowly opened her eyes, only for them to widen in fear heading toward the hospital was a small group of metal heads.
Roughly around five or eight was all she could count, looking around her the hallway was empty of all personal everyone in hiding or safety. Turning her head back to the advancing metalheads Kelinna bite down on her bottom lip, feeling her eco pulse with power having recharged and eager to be used again. Climbing out of the broken window, the glass cut up her hands and legs as she fell to the ground the tattered skirt she wore billowing around her.
Standing Kelinna wobbled on her feet, heading toward the creatures "you will...You will not harm the people inside!"
Screaming she quickly summoned a wall of green eco, pushing forward the green haired female pushed back the group watching them fall to the ground. Breathing heavily as each of them got back up, Kelinna glared as more approached the building.
Focusing on saving those in the hospital she brought up another shield, pushing it toward the metalheads as they advanced. Trapping them inside Kelinna ignored the tears falling from her eyes as she began to shrink the sphere, the creatures beating at the walls trying to escape as they where crushed by the very substance that was used to heal many...

Neko ran forward, nagging the creatures on. About ten or so of them broke off, following her.
" Run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread girl !" She shouted gleefully at them, tauting them with her glinting sword.

Slowly Ezekiel came too. His eyes slowly opened to a blurry world. Pain ran through his body from tail to head. It overwhelmed him, pushing away every thought and feeling that could still exist in a living body. After several minutes of lying on his back on a bed in a small hospital room, he slowly became accustomed to the pain. Memories started flooding back though his mind, pushing at the pain that filled his mind. Fire, smoke, screaming, scenes of the battles raging out side flooded his mind. Then moving through the smoke was the orphanage, its scorched smoldering remains burning into the back of his eyes. Ezekiel’s eyes snapped wide, his pupils dilating to small dots. His lips rose revealing the row of sharp teeth underneath as a low growl filled the room, coming deep from with in his chest. Rolling off the bed he hit the hard floor, a hiss leaving his maw as he rose up on all four. His mind blurred as thoughts of the orphanage and the pains raking his body mixed. As he looked around the room Ezekiel’s vision slowly reddened. His tail twitched back and forth as he took a step forward. More pain flooded through his body, as his broken body screamed out, drowning out any reason that still remained in him. Another rumbling growl left his throat as he made his way to the door of the hospital room. Pushing his snout against the swinging door he made his way out into a vacant hallway. Dust floated down from the ceiling and the lights flickered as the building shook. With a hiss Ezekiel made his way down the hall, coming across no one, though distant screams and crying could be heard. Sniffing the air Ezekiel found an open window. Looking out he saw Kelinna, but at the same time didn’t see her. Another growl and hiss left his maw as he climbed up onto the seal like a cat ready to pounce on its prey. He continued to watch the green haired girl as she fought the metal heads. As he watch he noticed a grunt climb out of the rubble of a nearby building some distance from Kelinna. The beast spotted Kelinna and slowly climbed down into the street, trying to go unnoticed, sneaking up behind the her. Ezekiel’s attention shifted from Kelinna to the metal head as it drew closer to the girl. With a roar Ezekiel lunged, catching the beast off guard. Slamming into its side the two rolled across the street, claws and teeth slashing and biting. Having the benefit of surprise on his side Ezekiel soon overpowered the metal head. Clamping down on its throat with his powerful jaws, Ezekiel shook the grunt violently, snapping its neck. Letting the grunts limp body drop to the ground Ezekiel’s attention turned back to Kelinna, his hackles rising as blood dripped from his maw. His eyes had become clouded with blood lust as he let out a roar at Kelinna.

Her focus on the metal heads trapped in the green sphere Kelinna did not notice the two behind her the creatures inside no longer fighting against the shrinking walls, upon hearing the sound of growling and fighting the green haired girl spun around. Letting out a surprised gasp, Kelinna lost her concentration the bubble around the creatures shattering though the metal heads inside where already dead. Glowing eyes took in Ezekiel's battered body, "Ezekiel your alive!" She was glad to see that he survived the horrible fire but there was something off, taking a small step forward Kelinna instantly took a step back at seeing the dead grunt brutally murdered by him.
Fear filling her eyes as she saw the emotions going through her friend's eyes, the blood dripping from his muzzle only added to the horrifying image Ezekiel made. Hearing his roar she took several steps back tripping over a large piece of rubble, the frightened girl landed on the floor crying out from the sudden fall. The brown tattered skirt billowing around her frame she looked up sadly. "Wait! Ezekiel its me Kelinna...Wh..What happen to you?" Whimpering in pain she looked down, her right arm had a small gash in it and even though it was already healing greenish red blood soon rolled down her forearm.
"Please come to your senses, your letting the monster take control." Slowly rising from the ground, Kelinna took a small shaky step toward the enraged Ezekiel "this isn't you..." Her voice was soft as a whisper, wanting to show him she meant no harm.

Rawling had come up with an idea! An effective way to fight these things off. Magnetism didn't use a whole lot of eco and metal was all around him... metal head metal that is.
He ran in front of small group of them and whistled "Hey uglies! You want some? Come get some!" They charged after him. "Of course you want some..." He said under his breath. When they got a few feet from him he unleashed a magnetic pulse and lifted them into the air. His raised his hands up, fingers spread and curled. The magnetic concentration was immense on these creautures. So much that the metal plating in there shoulders caved into there arms follows by their breast plates.
Once the metal loosened Rawling pulled the metal completely of the creatures and then dropped them all down onto the ground with the metal still suspended. He started to push the metal together. Compacting it into crude, sharp ball about the size of a basketball. It was, of course, gold in color but had a little blood still on it. "Ah yes that will do."
And there it was. His newly fashioned weapon for the battle. When a metalhead were to approach him, he would send the ball hurdling towards hit head at blinding speed that can break a skull gem into shards. This was the perfect tool for the job.
But as he walked on he noticed something odd. It wasn't a metelhead but whatever it was it was getting ready to attack someone. And Rawling recognized that green hair. That was the libraryian that worked with Neko!
Without hesitation he charged the dragon like creature. "Hey there gorgerous!" he taunt launching the golden metal ball like a missile towards the thing's face.

With metalhead blood dripping from his lips, Ezekiel rose up on his hind legs and roared. With blood shot eyes Z looked down at the girl, his hackles raised. Then he lunged, jaws agape, ready to bite down on the girls flesh-- A flash of white shot through Z's vision as a large metal ball slammed into the side of his head. The mutant was sent rolling across the pavement into a pile of debris. Boards and rubble fell from the top of the pile on Z, pinning him beneath. Ezekiel blinked in a daze, trying to clear the stars from his vision. As they cleared he let out a roar as a burning pain shot up through his chest. Looking down he found an iron re-bar sticking out of his chest. He let out a gurgle as blood dripped from his maw, his blood. With blurring vision he let out a weak gurgling roar before his head slumped forward and he passed out.

The ball hit the thing dead on, "HAHA! Nailed ya!" He brought the ball back and caught it running towards Kelinna. He knelt down beside her, "Holy crap are you ok? Good thing I got here just in time. What the hell was that anyway?"

As the yellow-eco based mortars fell from the sky above Haven, it was cruelly fascinating to learn a new, and very surprising, problem with Haven's heavily polluted skies. With the gray cloud of smoke hovering above the city, the Metal Head mortars would appear out of the sky, completely unnoticed until the tell-tale whistle of the shot was heard, by which time it would be too late to run or attempt to dodge the projectile. The mortars were exceptionally accurate, unbecoming for creatures whose anti-tank guns could barely hit a platoon of vehicles, let alone individual ones. But today, that didn't matter. In the brutal blood-bath of urban warfare, the Metal Head's lack of accuracy was forgotten. Wherever a mortar hit, it damaged something. Whether it be a building, a tank, or a group of men, either way it would damage the war effort just that much more. Accuracy wasn't an issue with a faction whose goal wasn't to destroy something, but to destroy everything.
Mendoza took only several seconds of his time to observe the streams of yellow light which marked the mortars' descent from the clouds, before it slammed into some distant target with the force of ten grenades. He returned his attention to Dunn, who was watching him expectantly.
Second Lieutenant Dunn was a man who instantly garnered respect from Mendoza. He was Caucasian, slightly tanned but still pale compared to people who didn't spent most of their time holed up in a metal shell. His eyes were steel blue, and held the look that only a man who had seen the worst of combat could manage. He had several scars on his face, including a small, curved mark under his left eye. Mendoza recognized this man as one who understood their plight, and knew firsthand what it took to win a battle.
"Tell me Lieutenant, how are we doing in this battle? Any good?" He braced himself for the worst. "Hard to say Corporal. The Metal Heads attacked the city from underground. They swept right up into Haven from craters in the streets, and we were taken completely by surprise." His tone was grim, somewhat saddened, but still with a trace of hard determination. "We took a lot of casualties at the start, especially the first hour. After that our losses started to decrease, and the front is beginning to stabilize. I figure we can hold them back." His face darkened. "At least if the shield is still up by then."
"What?"
"Almost the entire Industrial Sector is under Metal Head control. That includes the power station. Haven't you noticed all the damn shelling? Metal Head mortars are tearing straight through the shield because the power level is low. If not for the auxiliary generators then we wouldn't be talking right now."
Mendoza clenched his fist. Damn it all! Without the shield there isn't any hope at all. And with the Industrial Sector overrun, then surely my brothers are dead...
Mendoza bowed his head in respect. His brothers in arms died fighting for Haven. If they had to, then they would do the same.
Dunn's face showed his sorrow, as he waited for the squad of elite soldiers to take in the news. "Your fellow soldiers fought like nothing I've ever seen. They held off the assault for over an hour, even though they were outnumbered by over 10 to 1. My regiment was the only one to stand and fight with them. The rest fell back to the secondary defensive position, where they're still fighting. I'm very sorry Corporal, we did all that we could."
Mendoza jerked back up, and made eye contact with Dunn again. "It's fine Lieutenant, not your fault." There was something different in Mendoza's tone. Something ominous. Lieutenant Dunn didn't like it, but he ignored it for now.
The Tank Commander resumed his status report with renewed vigor. "The industrial section was hit from both sides. Both the Northern and Southern sections are under Metal Head control, with a trapped KG battalion attempting to hold the line in the central section. So far they're holding them off, but without support they won't last much longer."
Mendoza nodded. "What about the slums?"
Dunn hesitated. "We lost the slums a few hours ago. The Metal Heads gave it their all, and except for a few units around the fortress, it's completely under their control."
With a heavy heart, Mendoza took that in. "So the civilians..?"
The Lieutenant solemnly nodded.
"How many got away?"
"Less than half."
The street became silent, as all parties silently paid their respect for the dead.
Mendoza took a breath. "What about the port?"
The Tank Commander's face lightened, and Mendoza took that to mean some good news. "The port is the base of operations for the entire Southern Front, which is the second-strongest detachment of troops in the city, behind the Main Defense Area, or MDA for short. The port was attacked early on, but they were led by Commander Torn and he led brilliantly. They actually drove the Metal Heads all the way back into the Southern Industrial Section before they halted their advance. They dug in after that, and now they're holding the line under heavy artillery bombardment."
Mendoza breathed a sigh of relief. Haha! Damn Metal Heads! And they think we're at their mercy!
"What does the MDA consist of?", he asked, spirits much higher.
"Maintown, the Palace, the Fortress, and the Bazaar areas. The MDA has a direct link to the Southern Front through the Main Road, so they can reinforce each other as necessary. As a result both fronts are doing very well."
"What about the Northern Front?"
"Not nearly as well I'm afraid. They lost most of their fighting ability when the Metal Heads besieged the slums. The surviving forces fell back to the Stadium Section, just North of the MDA. They were reinforced by the MDA and ever since they've successfully held the sector."
"Well, at least we're holding the line." Mendoza's optimism was limited, but the situation was better than he had expected. All things considered, the KG were actually not doing bad
"What's being done about the City Shield?"
"Well, the KG are about to stage a massive city-wide counterattack on the rest of the Metal Heads. If it goes well, we'll drive them all the way back to the Water Slums."
Mendoza whistled. "How do they plan to do that?"
"My regiment was on the way to the Fortress, to rendezvous with the remaining KG forces in the area. We're going to attack through the slums, and link up with the surviving elements of the Northern Front. After we've stopped the attack on the stadium section, the combined forces will assault the slums and take it back. As soon as we do that, the MDA will send reinforcements to us, and we'll launch an offensive down into the Industrial Sector. At the same time, the Southern Front will commence an offensive North, with the goal of meeting up in the center. As soon as the power station is back under our control, we'll have engineers dispatched to repair it. Once the power station is taken care of, we'll dig in and defend it while troops from the MDA will counterattack and retake the Northern Farming distract and the West Bazaar. Once that's done, we'll combine all our forces and destroy the remaining Metal Heads in the Northeast sector of the city."
Mendoza took a few moments to take it all in. It was a good plan, from what he could tell. And they certainly had to do something, because the KG sure as hell wasn't equipped to fight a war of attrition. If they could end the Metal Head attack now, before the shield fell, then the KG victory would be almost assured.
"I like the plan Lieutenant, and it's our best shot. What's our timetable?"
The Commander lent forward, and rested his upper body on the body of the Trik as he considered. "I'd say we have anywhere from 1 to 2 hours before the shield collapses. I'd say longer, but with all the shelling I don't think it will hold up for much longer. So we need to be really hasty about this, and I can't imagine anything better for that then a light, mobile infantry squad capable of destroying forces over 5 times stronger."
Mendoza smirked slightly. "You'll have it Lieutanent. Our squad leader should be back on his feet momentarily, thanks to some green eco. Now, we need to go tend to him, unless there's anything else...?"
Dunn shook his head.
"Alright then. Pleasure meeting you sir!"
The Commander chuckled. "Likewise Corporal."
Mendoza and the rest of the squad quickly went and knelt next to Zrion. They flipped him over onto his back, and ensured that his breathing was steady. Braeburn removed the burnt and melted armor plate from Zrion, leaving his torso vulnerable. Braeburn checked Zrion over.
"Hmm...There's going to be a lot of scarring obviously, and his breastplate is useless. His breathing and heart rate is normal, but I figure he's going to be tired as hell when he wakes up. We won't know for sure if he can continue on until he's awake."
Mendoza nodded, and the three men fell silent as they waited for the Squad leader to awake again.
